Debbie Lynch: Angels Co-Director
Tuesday, September 19, 2006
Debbie Lynch, co-director of the Angels Dance team, knew
at an early age that dancing and cheerleading would play a major role in her
life. Growing up in South Philadelphia, she started dancing at the age of six at
a local dance studio that was conveniently located across the street from her
home.
Debbie attended the prestigious
Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts and received her first professional job cheering for
the Bulldogs; a professional roller hockey team, which was owned by
former “Who’s The Boss”, star Tony Danza. After the split up of the
Bulldogs and the demise of the roller hockey league, Debbie danced for the Philadelphia Kixx
indoor soccer team for two seasons. Debbie wanted more so she tried out and won a coveted
spot on the Philadelphia Eagles cheerleading team. Many aspiring dancers can
only dream about becoming a Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader, while Debbie was
able to make that dream a reality.
In 1996, Debbie became the director of the Philadelphia KIXX dance team after dancing for them for
two seasons. In her second season of directing she enlisted the help of her
sister-in-law and the co-director of the Angels, Dana Theil. The dynamic duo of Theil
and Lynch have worked together for years now, both with the Bulldogs, at
Theils studio (Pennsport School of Dance, in South Philadelphia), and now with the
Wings.
As
Debbie jokingly stated, “We balance each other out, our personalities are complete opposites. Its
like good cop and bad cop. This year Dana is the bad cop.
She is tougher on the girls.” Even though Dana is seen
as the forceful one Debbie is certainly glad she is around. This partnership has
no difficulties swapping roles and taking on additional responsibilities for the team, especially last
season.
While Dana was on maturity leave Debbie stepped in
and assumed the leadership role for the team, what I failed to mention was that
Debbie was also pregnant. She danced on and taught the girls week in and week
out last season while expecting her new born son! "Last season was tough, some
days were hard because i wasent feeling well, but at the same time it was fun
and allowed me be active during my pregnancy." Debbie gave birth to her son, John
Andrew Lynch on June 28th.
With the 2006-2007 Wings season opener just a few months
away, Debbie and the rest of the Angles dance team are anxious to start
practicing. Three new members join the team and a fresh new look will be
revealed. Debbie has high hopes and expectations for this years team stating, “I
think this season will be amazing!”
