WINGS SIGN FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK GEOFF SNIDER
Friday, January 5, 2007

The Philadelphia Wings have signed their 2006 first round draft pick (4th overall) Geoff Snider according to Wings General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. Snider will be in the lineup tomorrow night when the Wings face the Edmonton Rush in their season opener at Rexall Place in Edmonton, AB.

"Geoff brings many dimensions to this team," said Wings’ Owner and President Russ Cline. "He’s an outstanding face-off specialist, tenacious on loose balls, and plays tough defense. His confidence and relentless commitment to winning will make him an instant fan favorite in Philadelphia."

"I’m thrilled to be a part of the Wings’ organization and very fortunate that I could work out an agreement with my employer in Denver that would allow me to play," said Snider. "The Wings organization is full of history and championships and I’m looking forward to being a part of that history and to have the opportunity to play in front of the best fans in the NLL."

Snider, who was originally predicted to go first overall in this season’s Entry Draft, is a product of the University of Denver, where he was a dominant force for the Pioneers winning over 60% of face-offs taken over his entire collegiate career. In his senior season at Denver, Snider finished second in the nation with a 68.4% face-off win percentage. He set NCAA records in 2006 for ground balls per game (11.41) and total groundballs (194) on the season. Snider represented Team Canada in the 2006 World Lacrosse Championships and was a dominant force in the face-off circle. He won 19 of 28 draws in the final and was named tournament Most Valuable Player as Team Canada Won their first title since 1978.

To make room for Snider on their roster the Wings released third-year defenseman Dan Finck.
