Wings Headed For Shootout In Calgary This Saturday
Wednesday, February 7, 2007
The Wings return to the road when take their first ever trip to the Pengrowth
Saddledome to face the Calgary Roughnecks this Saturday at 7:30 MST. Both teams are on winning streaks with
Philadelphia taking their last three and Calgary their last four. This weekend will be a tough test for
the Wings as the Roughnecks have three players among the top 21 league
scorers (Lewis Ratcliff, Tracey
Kelusky, Kaleb Toth) and have a league leading 12 short-handed goals.
“Right now we’re just focused on keeping up with the number of goals that
Calgary has scored,” said Wings’ Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. “The way our power play has been, this
is definitely one of the concerns for us this game. They’ve really been playing well all
around, so this game is definitely going to be a test for us.”
This is the Wings’ second trip out west this season, their first being to
Edmonton where they lost a 13-12 contest to the Rush on January 6 in the season
opener. Sanderson says his team
will keep a consistent schedule with the one they had in Edmonton.
“We’ll fly out Friday evening, just like we did in Edmonton. I thought we played well there – the
game just got away from us in the last five minutes since we played short handed
the whole second half and our defense was spent. We won’t change anything this time
around. Out on Friday night, a
light run on Saturday morning, and then getting ready for gametime.”
One of the highlights in this contest will be the return of Wings’ rookie
Geoff Snider to his hometown of Calgary.
“I wasn’t expecting to get the offense out of him (Snider) that he’s
shown the past couple of games,” said Sanderson. “I’ve known Geoff for a couple of years
and knew he could do more than just face-offs. I’m happy with how he and all of our
rookies are performing this season.”
NOTES: Saturday’s game will be broadcast
tape-delay on Versus on Sunday, February 11 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
