This Is How I Live In The Offseason - Ken Montour
Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Ken Montour, goalie for the Philadelphia Wings, just completed his first season with the team, and his fifth in the National Lacrosse League.  He appeared in 12 games for the Wings and finished 2007 with a save percentage of 70%.  The Wings acquired Montour in 2006 from the Buffalo Bandits, in exchange for a third round pick in the NLL Entry Draft.

Before heading back to Six Nations, Ontario for the summer, Montour talked about this past season and what he sees in the coming seasons for the team.

“I definitely think consistency was a problem for us all year.  If we can figure out how to put a full 60 minutes together every night, we’re going to be very successful in the future,” said Montour.

Montour thought there were a lot of positives that came from this year, despite some of the team’s problem spots, and the disappointing ending to the season.  He believes the younger guys on the team have all significantly developed, and that the overall team chemistry was excellent.

Individually, there are some areas Montour would like to work on in the off-season so that he can help the Wings be successful next year. He expressed that he would like to be more consistent and be sure that he’s bringing his best game to the field every night.  The veteran goaltender plans to work hard in the off-season to accomplish his goal.  He says he will work out daily, and will also be playing a lot of lacrosse.  Montour is a member of the Six Nations Chiefs, and will also play for the Iroquois Nationals in the World games in May.

Montour’s summer won’t be all hard work though.  He intends to watch the NLL Champions Cup in a few weeks and is pulling for the Buffalo Bandits, his previous team, since the Wings are not a contender.  He grew up with some of the Bandits, like Cory Bomberry and Roger Vyse, and would like to see his old friends win it all.  Additionally, Montour plans to vacation in Virginia Beach in August.

Although he is excited about his summer plans, Montour says there are some things he will definitely miss while he is gone.

“I’ll miss the camaraderie with my roommates and other players. We got to be pretty much like brothers and now it’s coming to an end.”
