Wings Sign Defender Taylor Wray to Two-Year Contract

The
Philadelphia Wings have signed defenseman Taylor Wray to a two-year contract
according to Wings General Manager Lindsay Sanderson. The Wings have also signed second-year
goaltender Jay Preece; veteran forwards Keith Cromwell, Dan Marohl and Marc
Morley; and veteran defensemen Thomas Hajek, Shawn Nadelen, Ian Rosenberger and
Kyle Sweeney all to one-year deals.
Rookies Eric Bishop, Jim Borell, Casey
Cittandino, Adam Crystal, Dan Deckelbaum, Matt Eckerel, Conor Ford, Patrick
Heim, David Mitchell, William McKinney, Brett Moyer, Jamie Rooney, John Ryan,
Merrick Thomson, Justin Tischler, and Drew Westervelt were also signed to
one-year contracts.
“Coach
(Dave) Huntley and I felt that the opening weekend of training camp was a
productive one,” said Sanderson.
“We were able to get many of our players signed which allows us to focus
on preparing for the upcoming season.”
Wray finished the 2007 regular season
with 14 points (5G, 9A) and led the team in loose balls with 119. The 6’2”, 230-pound defenseman finished
second overall in penalty minutes with 45 and served as an assistant captain for
Calgary last season. Wray has
accumulated 67 points (21G, 46A), 393 loose balls, and 148 penalty minutes in 55
career games and was a member of Calgary’s 2004 National Lacrosse League
Championship Squad. He was named
the NLL’s Rookie of the Year and co-Defender of the Year after being drafted by
the Roughnecks in the first round (second overall) in the 2003 NLL Entry
Draft.
Cromwell
scored 17 points (10G, 7A) in ten games for the Wings last season. The seven-year forward is sixth overall
in all-time scoring for the Wings (270 points) and all-time goals scored
(92).
Marohl
finished second overall in scoring for the Wings last season with 44 points
(27G, 20A) in 16 games. The
eighth-year forward is fifth overall in all-time Wings scoring (302) and seventh
overall in all-time goals scored (90).
Morley
recorded 18 points (11G, 7A) in 12 games last season. The sixth-year forward is entering his
third season with the Wings.
Nadelen is
entering his seventh National Lacrosse League season, and his fourth season with
the Wings. The defenseman recorded
seven points (1G, 6A) in 13 games last season.
Hajek has
served as the Wings captain for the past three seasons and was second overall in
penalty minutes last season. The
three-time All-Star is the team’s all-time leader in penalty minutes with 245.
Preece is
entering his second season as a goaltender with the Wings. He played in six games during the 2007
season and had a 13.84 goals against average.
Sweeney, a
Springfield, PA native, scored 11 points (4G, 7A) in 16 games last season. The fourth-year defenseman finished
fifth overall on the Wings in loose balls last
season.
