Michael French - Co-Owner and Executive Vice-President
Michael French has been a former Philadelphia Wings
player, coach, general manager and team advisor since their inception in
1987. He entered into a partnership agreement with the current ownership
group, led by Russ Cline, prior to the start of the 1998 season.
French brings local leadership and ownership to a team that has
historically been one of the league’s strongest performers. He has been an
integral component in the team’s six league championships in 1989, 1990, 1994,
1995, 1998, and 2001.
An accomplished player, French led the Wings in
scoring in the inaugural season and prior to that was a three-time First Team
All-American atCornell University. He captained the 1976
undefeated National Championship team at Cornell and was named The Ivy League
and NCAA College Player of the Year. Two years later, French also
captained the Canadian National Team to its first World’s Championship and was
voted the tournament’s “Best and Fairest Player.” He also represented Canada as a
player and captain in 1974 and 1982.
In 1991 French was honored
as the first Canadian player inducted into the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame and
was inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2001. On February 16, 2007, French was
inducted to the National Lacrosse League Hall of
Fame.
French is a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, overseeing their National
Hospitality and Leisure Advisory Practice. He, his wife Liz, and their
daughter Sara, reside in Radnor, PA.
