Iannucci and Snider Named to NLL All-Pro Teams
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
Philadelphia Wings forward Athan Iannucci was
selected to National Lacrosse League’s All-Pro First Team. Iannucci is
joined on the team by NLL stars Case Powell (New York), John Tavares (Buffalo),
Ryan Cousins (Minnesota), Mark Steenhuis (Buffalo), and goaltender Bob Watson
(Toronto).
The Wings standout transition player Geoff Snider was also honored by the NLL
as a member of the All-Pro Second Team. Colin Doyle (San Jose), Gavin
Prout (Colorado), Jeff Zywicki (San Jose), Scott Self (Chicago), and goaltender
Matt Vinc (New York) were also named to the team on
Wednesday.
Iannucci
finished the 2008 season with 71 goals, a new NLL single-season record, and 29
assists. He was the only player to reach the 100-point plateau on his way
to winning the league’s overall scoring title. Iannucci was also named as
the NLL’s Player of the Month three times (January, February, and April), a
league first. 2008 was also Iannucci’s first All-Star appearance as he was
one of three Wings named to the team and Philadelphia’s only starter in the
game. The Wings drafted Iannucci, out of Hofstra University, in the first
round (eighth overall) of the 2006 NLL Entry Draft.
This season Snider broke the single-season loose ball record by collecting
244. He also matched the single season record for face-off wins with 318,
tying teammate Peter Jacobs who won the same number of face-offs during the 2005
season. Snider led the NLL with 103 penalty minutes in 2008, a new NLL
single season record. Snider was also named the 2008 NLL All Star Game
MVP. The University of Denver Alum was drafted by the Wings in the first
round (fourth overall) of the 2006 NLL Entry Draft.
