Offseason Q & A with Head Coach Dave Huntley
Tuesday, June 24, 2008
Head Coach Dave Huntley gave Wingslax.com a few
quick thoughts recapping last season and what he is looking to improve on
for the 2009 season.
Q. What was the team’s greatest
accomplishment of 2008?
A. We played up-tempo, exciting,
winning lacrosse.
Q. What was your biggest challenge in your
first season as Wings Head Coach?
A. Managing
expectations.
Q. What was the biggest difference between the
Wings team on the first day of training camp and the Wings team on the floor in
April?
A. We went from a team that walked on and off the floor
to one that ran on and off the floor.
Q. What area do you think the team needs
to improve on the most for 2009?
A. Running on and off the
floor on a more consistent basis.
Q. Were there any players that surprised
you and performed above what you anticipated before the season
began?
A. In order for us to get the results we had all of our
guys had to perform at a high level and I think they
did.
Q. A lot of the Wings success in 2008 was
due to the play of first and second year players; how important will this year’s
entry draft to the overall success of the team in 2009?
A. We
have three important drafts to prepare for this year; if there is a dispersal
draft, the expansion draft for Boston and the entry draft of amateur
players. Each of these drafts will have important implications for our
team.
Q. What was your favorite Wings moment of
the 2008 season on or off the field?
A. There were a lot of
great moments. Our first training camp practice, the first game and first
win, Athan breaking Gary’s record, Jim Veltman’s retirement game and making the
playoffs all come to mind.
Q. Any additional thoughts for Wings fans
this off-season?
A. Have a safe and fun summer and we will see
you in the fall.
