The
Philadelphia Wings have signed forward Kyle Wailes to a four year contract
according to Wings General Manager Lindsay Sanderson. Wailes scored 37 points (16G, 21A) in 11
games for the Wings in 2007 and was named National Lacrosse League Player of the
Week on two occasions. Wailes, who did not
play in 2008, will bolster a strong left offensive side which includes their
first round draft pick Sean Thomson and A.J. Shannon.
“When
we traded to get Kyle in 2007, we knew he was going to be a great offensive
threat on our left side,” said Sanderson.
“We are thrilled to overcome the challenges with Kyle’s work visa last
year and it was our priority that we locked him up for the long term. We think he will be a marquee player in
the league.”
Wailes was acquired by the Wings in 2007 from the Calgary
Roughnecks in exchange forPhiladelphia’s
first pick in the 2007 NLL Entry Draft.
As a collegiate player, the 6’1, 205 pound forward lead Brown University in scoring as a senior with 35
points (5G, 30A) as well as being named to the All-Ivy League Team. Wailes was also a standout in the
Ontario Lacrosse Association Jr. A League where he won the league’s scoring
title two consecutive seasons (2003-2004).
