Wings Get Mammoth Win Over Colorado
Saturday, March 28, 2009
PHILADELPHIA, PA – A second breakout
game from Athan Iannucci and great play from Wings (5-7) starting goaltender
Brandon Miller propelled Philadelphia to a 17-13 victory over the Colorado
Mammoth (6-6). Iannucci had four
goals and three assists while Miller stopped 37 shots and scored a goal of his
own. The win
kept the team’s playoff hopes alive as they are still only a half game out of
the final spot in the East Division.
“We put it all together tonight against a
very toughColorado team,” said Head Coach Dave
Huntley.
The Wings came out strong scoring just 33 seconds into the
contest. The teams traded goals and
the score was tied 4-4 after the first.
Miller had his busiest quarter, stopping 12 of 16 to keep the Wings from
going down early as they did in their previous home contest. Iannucci scored his first of the game in
the second quarter and triggered a four goal run by Philadelphia which gave
them an 8-5 lead going into the half.
Both teams scored three third quarter
goals as the Wings maintained their three goal advantage. Iannucci would add two to his total,
along with a goal from Geoff Snider who was returning from tracheal tear that he
suffered four weeks prior in Edmonton.
The fourth quarter was an offensive
show from both teams with 11 total goals scored in the period. Iannucci scored his fourth and added two
assists, Snider scored his second goal of the game shorthanded, and Miller even
got into the act scoring on the Mammoth empty net with two and half minutes to
play.
