Wings Drop Tough Game to Titans
Sunday, April 5, 2009
–
Wings (6-8) second year forward Kyle Wailes contributed on 10 of the Wings 13
goals, but it was not enough to fend off the New York Titans (8-6) who were
victorious by the score of 16-13.
Wailes had three goals and seven assists but 12 second half goals keyed
the Titans to the win. The Wings
now sit a half game out of the East Division playoffs with two games
remaining.
“It was a very physical game
throughout, but we were not able to keep it up throughout the second half,” said
Head Coach Dave Huntley.
The Wings started the game with three goals in
the first three minutes, to take the early advantage. Wailes had two of the team’s five first
period goals and assisted on the other three. New York managed to three scores on nine
shots. Philadelphia maintained their first half advantage by
outscoring New
York three to one in the game’s second period and went
into the half up 8-4.
The Titans started the second half the
same way the Wings started the first, with three consecutive goals. Philadelphia would score three in the third quarter, but
New York
managed eight goals which caused the Wings to pull starting goaltender Brandon
Miller in favor of veteran Rob Blasdell.
Down by one goal going into the final period, Wailes stepped up again
assisting on an Athan Iannucci goal and then scoring a goal of his own to put
his team up by one with 12 minutes left in the game. That would be the Wings last score
however, and New York netted four more goals to
put Philadelphia
away.
