Buffalo Holds Off Wings 13-11

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Mark Steenhuis scored a pair of
goals to go along with six assists to lead the Buffalo Bandits over the
Philadelphia Wings, 13-11. Philadelphia was led by forward Kyle Wailes who
had seven points on the evening (4G 3A). Philadelphia hosts Rochester next
Saturday night, February 20 at the Wachovia Center.
Philadelphia started the game strong by scoring five
goals within the first seven minutes of the first quarter. Buffalo answered with
four goals of their own, including a pair within a seven-second span to cap off
an offensively driven opening frame. Buffalo went on to outscore
Philadelphia in the second and third quarters 6-3. The Wings drew within
one goal on a Geoff Snider score at 6:39 of the fourth quarter, but the Bandits
would answer four minutes later to reclaim their two goal lead. John
Tavares cemented the Bandits’ win with the final goal of the game with just over
three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. He finished with six points (2G
4A) in the win.
Drew Westervelt, who entered the contest tied with
Mat Giles as the Wings' leading goal scorer, finished with a goal and two
assists. Giles added three assists on the night. Rookie Max Seibald
chipped in with a goal and an assist in his home debut. Brandon Miller
recorded 36 saves in the losing effort.
