CALGARY, AB – The Philadelphia Wings (2-7) lost to the defending NLL champion Calgary Roughnecks (5-3) Saturday night 15-7. Calgary players Scott Ranger and Tracey Kelusky led the team on offense, scoring seven of the Roughnecks’ 15 goals. Philadelphia will travel to Orlando to face the Titans on Friday, March 12, before returning home to Wachovia Center on Saturday, March 13 at 7 p.m. to take on the Minnesota Swarm.

Calgary got their offense going early, scoring just 24 seconds into the contest. They would add a second goal two and a half minutes later and never look back the rest of the evening. Philadelphia played the game close in the first half, getting goals from team leading scorers Kyle Wailes, Mat Giles, and Drew Westervelt; but the Wings were unable to overcome the offensive barrage of Calgary who had nine first half goals on 29 shots. Philadelphia was only able to beat Roughnecks goalie Matt King four times on their 27 shots in the first half.

The Roughnecks opened the scoring in the second half, just as they did in the first, and continued the offensive pressure out shooting Philadelphia 27 to 20 in the final two quarters of play. The combination of sensational play in net and sound defense kept Philadelphia’s offense off balance which allowed Calgary to extend its lead. King was sensational in goal for the Roughnecks, stopping 17 of 20 shots for his squad in the second half. Bill McGlone, John Christmas, and Wailes were the only Wings able to find the back of the net in the final 30 minutes of the contest. Westervelt led Philadelphia in overall scoring with five points (1G, 4A) and Wailes led in goal scoring with three on the night.
