Wings to Support HEADstrong Foundation this Saturday
Tuesday, March 9, 2010
The Philadelphia Wings will wear green in an effort to
generate awareness of HEADstrong and remember the late Nick Colleluori, a former
Ridley lacrosse player, when the team hosts the Minnesota Swarm at the
Wachovia
Center on Saturday, March
13 at 7 p.m.
The Wings will don neon green warm-ups and shoe
laces during this special night. In addition, the game referees will wear green jerseys and the
Wings coaches will wear green
to honor Colleluori, who lost his courageous fight against blood
cancer on November 28, 2006, at the age of
21.
Fans are also encouraged to wear green to the game and
help support HEADstrong.
The HEADstrong Foundation, founded by
Colleluori, generates funds for cancer research, increases public awareness, and
distributes grants and assistance to survivors of blood cancer and their
families.
Colleluori was a graduate of Ridley High
School in 2004 and a Division I lacrosse player for Hofstra University. Colleluori defined the word
“Relentless” during his 14 month battle against Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma; a
vicious type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system. Despite intense
radiation and chemotherapy, Colleluori passed away at a very young age. He
was known for his aggressiveness and character on and off the
field.
