Disappointment is not a strong enough word for how I feel about the game last Saturday night and this season. We all kept waiting for the breakthrough that we saw glimpses of , but it never materialized on a game to game basis.  I wrote a few weeks back that “A team is only as good as their record.” It is clear we are headed to the worst record in Wings history and a dead last finish in the league.  Blaming injuries would be too simple.  We didn’t get it done and that is unacceptable. The talent and schemes we believed in and died by failed to match up to other teams in this league. Certainly we have the nucleus of a good team. In fact some of our players have the potential to become among the best in the league. It’s painfully obvious that we must upgrade our talent considerably…and we will.

What’s next? The ownership will sit down and evaluate, along with others whose opinions we value to evaluate what went wrong and what we have to do to make it better. With the return of some very talented players, the right decisions on new talent and a winnable system, we will be a formidable team next year.  Everyone will be evaluated tougher than ever knowing that in sports the only thing that matters is winning.  There is one point none of us need to discuss or think about….we’ve all lost our patience with losing.  Next year is the 25th anniversary of the league and the ONLY TEAM in the league that can celebrate 25 years… the Wings. Yes the Wings are the only franchise left of the original four teams when Chris and I founded the league. I can assure you that it has been your passion and dedication that has sustained this franchise through the good and the bad years.  We also realize that our won/loss record over the past 5 years is jeopardizing this franchise’s future. Talk is cheap and the only thing that does and should count is results. The process to bring the once proud Wings back to prominence has taken way too long.

Let’s congratulate the Flyers on making the NHL playoffs. What a game last Sunday! Unfortunately the league claimed our makeup game but we knew that was a possiblity when we scheduled it.  Once again I apologize for any inconvenience it has caused you. The rescheduled game is now Friday, April 23 at 7:00 against the Orlando Titans. Lets end this season together next Friday night, showing the other teams and their fans that in good times or bad we support our team as we sit on the edge of the 25th Anniversary of PHILADELPHIA’s Wings lacrosse. I will be there and I hope you will be also.
