Russ Cline (Business Journal Article)
End of Season Blog from President and Owner Russ Cline
Thursday, April 29, 2010

Well last Friday night was a tough way to end the season.  We were playing a very good team (I’ve picked them to win it all) and stayed with them for a half. After that they owned us. Very little effort by our guys, a lot of selfish  decisions and a total collapse of disciplined play.  Suffice to say (because whatever I say will inflame someone) the season except for a couple of bright spots was a big disappointment. With some important changes, new additions and the return of some key players we will be better next year. (I know some of you are saying I said that last year. Beat you to it.)

On a very warm note I so appreciate the hundreds of fans who stayed after the game for over an hour and a half to get autographs and pictures. You were patient and warm after the humiliating defeat and that’s what makes you special.  You were just as disappointed as we were but you still showed your support and dedication to the team. The players did not even shower after the game to get to you and not one left or complained about staying as long as it took to see you all.  These guys struggled on the field but they showed great class and commitment when they really would have loved to go home.

We all are fed up with losing and lame excuses. I will offer none. The ownership is committed to finding the answer and will do whatever it takes within our power to get us better. We do have a nucleus to build from and certainly found out who on this team wants or can play in this league. I will get back to you as soon as we have had sufficient time to do our evaluations and make decisions.  There will be changes but we need to do them wisely and with purpose.

Next year is the 25th anniversary of the National Lacrosse League.  Only one franchise can celebrate 25 years and that is your Philadelphia Wings. You are special fans who have stood by us through the good, bad and “ugly”  for 24 years. Without you the franchise would not have made it and I’m not sure the league would have either.  Sorry for disappointing you on the scoreboard again. It has been a tough 8 years but I still believe we are close to having good days again. I do want to thank our coaching staff and players for being class individuals who truly care about the game, the team, you and each other. The staff at the Wachovia Center is second to none in the nation and we are honored to be part of their family.

Until I write again, THANKS and have a great summer.

Russ
