PHILADELPHIA WINGS DROP THE GLOVES TO FIGHT BLOOD CANCER AT WELLS FARGO CENTER ON FEBRUARY 24
The Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) will join the fight against blood cancer by wearing and auctioning off game worn Lime Green gloves in support of the HEADstrong Foundation when they host the Colorado Mammoth at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday, February 24 at 4 p.m.
The limited edition Lime Green gloves each Wings player wears will be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting the HEADstrong Foundation, a non-profit organization that advocates, fundraises and supports those affected by blood cancers and those working towards eliminating the disease.
Fans can go online to bid on their favorite players’ gloves, starting February 24 through March 3. Complete information regarding the auction and ticket information can be found at www.WingsLAX.com/headstrong. The Wings will also be donating a portion of ticket sales to the foundation for fans using the promotional code “HEADSTRONG”, when purchasing through the Wings’ website.
For Wings players Kevin Buchanan and CJ Costabile, both who serve as HEADstrong's player spokesmen, this game means a lot more.
"HEADstrong Foundation is very near to our hearts,” said Costabile and Buchanan. “This organization is helping to change the game for so many families across the country whose lives have been turned upside down by blood cancer. As a team we are honored to represent Nick Colleluori on the field."
The Wings have had a longstanding partnership with the HEADstrong Foundation, beginning with the foundation’s early days . In 2011, the team took the field wearing lime green jerseys, the color associated with the HEADstrong Foundation and their national awareness platform supporting blood cancer. A post game jersey auction helped to raise over $17,000 to support their services.
The HEADstrong Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded by lacrosse player Nicholas "HEAD" Colleluori in wake of a terminal diagnosis of non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2005 while he was playing at Hofstra University. The HEADstrong Foundation is committed to being a resource for those affected by blood cancers. They are dedicated to helping patients and families navigate the harrowing ordeal of cancer by sharing their experience, lending guidance and providing essential services with emphasis placed improving quality of life during the process.
