On Saturday July 13th fans of the National Lacrosse League, from across the United States and Canada, traveled to Rochester, NY for the 12th annual Fann Cup charity lacrosse tournament. The Fann Cup was started as a friendly rivalry match between fans of the Toronto Rock, Rochester Knighthawks, and Buffalo Bandits and has evolved into a weekend of lacrosse friends and fun.
Philadelphia is represented by two teams, the Rage and the Wingnuts. However, Wings fans can also be found playing on the Minnesota Stingers, Team Spirit, and the Toronto Roadies. The tournament is coed and open to players of all skill levels who want a chance to play NLL style lacrosse in a fun atmosphere.
This year’s winning team was the Toronto Roadies, who are fans of the Toronto Rock. The other trophy handed out yearly is the Spirit Cup, which is given to the team that demonstrates the most sportsmanship and fair play. Fittingly the Spirit, which is made up of fans from many areas took home this year’s Spirit Cup.
The biggest winner was TK9. A charity named after Tyler Kopp, a young man who died tragically playing lacrosse. The money donated will be used to purchase Automated External Defibrillator’s for youth sporting events.
