PHILADELPHIA WINGS DROP EXHIBITION GAME TO BANDITS 16 TO 15
The Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) began their 28th season of play Saturday night against the Buffalo Bandits at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, NY. The Wings came up short in the final minutes of the exhibition against Buffalo, falling 16-15.
The Wings were paced on offense by a trio of hat-tricks from three new faces to the team; Pat Saunders (five goals), Garret Thul (three goals) and Kyle Buchanan (three goals). Together they combined for 12 points and nine of Philadelphia’s 12 goals.
The Wings built an early lead to open the game with a fast start from Pat Saunders scoring back-to-back goals to establish a 3-0 lead. Philadelphia entered halftime with a 12-7 advantage due to contributions from Garret Thul, James Delaney, Kyle Buchanan and Pat Saunders. Thul, Buchanan and Saunders all completed their hat-tricks in the first half.
The Wings carried their lead into the final quarter when Buffalo mounted their comeback. The score sat even at 15-15 with less than two minutes to go. The Bandits scored the final goal of the game with 1:28 left for the win on a shot from Shawn Williams.
Despite losing the game, there are many positives that the team can take from the exhibition game. The Wings had solid contributions from many new members to the team. This presents plenty of options for determining lineups.
